Jewel Black Raspberry is a renowned producer of big and delicious berries! Berries are round, firm, dark purple black that preserve really well for winter in jams and frozen with a bit of honey. Jewel black raspberry is great for fresh eating, canning, jams, freezing, making jellies and is an excellent stable producer for the farmers market. Self-pollinating with great tolerance to cold, hardy to zone 5! Berries ripen mid-July to August in our area (Central PA)
Latin Name: Rubus occidentalis ‘Jewel’
Sensitivity to transplanting: Extremely sensitive. Does not like to be transplanted. Make sure to plant as soon as you get the plants. Reportedly over 80% of plants do not make it. Once established they do really well and can be easily multiplied by tip layering.
Site and Soil: Well-drained, slightly acidic, sandy to loamy soil, rich in organic matter.
